1 out of 5 stars Disappointing   April 16, 2008

What a disappointment. TEOM may as well have been a 2-disc set since this one deviates little from that album. Bad lyrics. Bad melodies. Bad rapping. First two singles are snoozers. Best song is Migrate which is completely destroyed by the disruptive rap.

Went from a fan to I ran (away) in just two quick albums. Bring back 1990s Mariah, please.

3 out of 5 stars One of her overall worst albums 3 1/2 stars   April 18, 2008

Mariah Carey needs no introduction. After all, she has sold over 100 million records. She is either known for her angelic beauty, her beautiful singing voice, or for going to some of the highest octaves possible. Regardless of how you know her, she is one of the most popular figures the music industry has ever seen. Most of the time, she releases quality material, timeless material, very listenable material. I am disappointed with this album as a unit primarily because this album sounds a lot like what was found on "The Emancipation of Mimi" as well as her other works. A few of the songs even sound like her smash hit, "Always Be My Baby." As everyone is well aware, Mariah can do some wonderful things with her voice, but she only gives us a few high notes on "E=MC2." This album is not horrible, it's just "okay."

I was immediately impressed with "Touch My Body." The lyrics are very racy, and the production sounds like a throwaway from one of her past albums, but something about this song works. It is definitely one of the strongest moments on this fourteen track compact disc. The only song that can hold a candle to "Touch My Body" is the magnificent "Last Kiss." This is really a nice song that I play repeatedly, particularly because I like the chorus. Jermaine Dupri shows up one too many times saying stupid things. He should just write and produce for Mariah, but Lord knows he needs to stop saying "MC, what," etc. etc. Enough is enough. "I Wish You Well" is another nice track. Mariah showcases her singing skills oh so well at the end of this song. She did very well and reminded me of the Mariah I was introduced to in the early 1990s. Missteps include "Migrate" and "For the Record." Plainly put, I could not get into these numbers. The rest of the album is alright, but this music is no where near timeless.

I'm a bit hesitant to recommend this album because I know what this artist is capable of. If you are alright with Mariah doing typical R&B and conforming to what music sounds like today, pick this album up. But, if you want Mariah in rare form, if you want Mariah at her best, invest in "Mariah Carey", "Music Box" and "Daydream." Now there is MUSIC on those albums.

Mikeisha's Top 5

1."Touch My Body"
2."Last Kiss"
3."I Stay in Love"
4."I'll Be Loving You Long Time"
5."Cruise Control"

5 out of 5 stars It's like that   April 18, 2008

I was eagerly awaiting Mariah's new release E=MC2 primarily because of the massive success of her 1st single off the cd "Touch My Body" which was a bonafided smash.

It didn't prepare for what the cd as a whole had to offer which is far more than i anticipated this time around. From a kiss off track that shows exactly what kind of vocals she possesses "I Wish You Well" to a track about missing our loved ones that have passed on her new single off the album "Bye Bye". Also another that i enjoyed is the first song on the cd "Migrate" with T-Pain. You wouldn't think that it quite work out but somehow it all melds together with a fierce beat that won't let go of you and the vocoder effects that has T-Pain much success. Another one "Cruise Control" with Damian Marley. It has a slick reggae beat to it but it also has a upbeat style of flow to it both on her vocals and Damian's as well. It makes you feel like your on a beach on a far off island just relaxing.

"Thanx 4 Nothin" is exactly what it states Mariah's letting a guy know that she doesn't appreciate his tired, lame ways towards her. "I'll Be Lovin U Long Time" and "Last Kiss" show MC doing her thing and exactly why she has such steady and long lasting success and the vocals are never better. She also writes on every song on E=MC2 and has some help from Nate "Danja" Hills, T-Pain, Bryan Cox, S. Shropshire, Scott Storch, Jermaine Dupri, Terius "The Dream" Nash, S. Eriksen and T. E. Hermansen among others. It's a who's who list of producers and writers but she's still able to fly on her own throughout the release with only 3 guest stars (Migrate feat T-Pain, Cruise Control feat Damian Marley and Side Effects feat Young Jeezy).

Tracks of note (that should be future singles)

Migrate Feat. T-Pain
I Stay In Love
Side Effects Feat. Young Jeezy
Love Story
I'll Be Loving U Long Time
Last Kiss
Thanx 4 Nothin
For The Record
Bye Bye (already the 2nd single from the album)
I Wish You Well

i really enjoyed Emancipation of Mimi, but dare i say it. I'm enjoying E=MC2 that much more and its going to be another smash album for Mariah and her fans are feeling it as well and even if your not a fan of MC. Give this one a try and a few listens i think that it just might change your mind. One of the better cd releases of 2008 so far.

1 out of 5 stars Boring.... Boring... Boring.... Same sound as always.....   April 23, 2008

just one world.... Boring.
Its "Migrate" and a bunch of boring songs....
Same sound as the last CD, nothing new. Whats wrong with this girl?
I bet shes gonna have to do tons of remixes and a Re release to "sell millions".

2 out of 5 stars What has happened to her voice and musical style?   April 24, 2008
12 out of 12 found this review helpful

In my opinin Mariah has lost the powerful voice she had in the 90's and now she has to sing like beyonce or ashanti because she can no longer hit the high notes that she did on songs like Anytime you need a friend or Emotions. No wonder why she doesn't sing those songs on her concerts now days. None of the songs in this album are memorable and they will be forgotten in a short time.

Mariah, you might be trying to prove Tommy Mottola that you are successful with this hip hop style, but if it wasn't for all those songs and that wonderful voice you use to sing with while you were under his guidance, You would not be the sucessful artist you are today.
