Some good songs make it worth it June 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been a Madonna fan forever, and I think you have to give it to her for continuing to bring us some great music. The album is inconsistent and some songs you gotta skip, but there's enough good stuff here for a good album -- my favorite is Give it 2 me, I dig the ska dance beat.
From Confessions to Confections June 24, 2008 It's been three years since the disco flavors of Confessions on a Dancefloor. Madonna returns with another dance album, Hard Candy, though these confections have a harder edged, bass flavor, encouraging new fans to give the cd a spin while challenging loyal fans to widen their own musical appreciation.
Favorite tracks are: Candy Shop (sexy, "talky" Madonna extolling the turkish delights and other goodies for sale), Give It 2 Me (best song on the album, driving "Express Yourself"-type gem, nice breakdown), Heartbeat (see my booty get down, indeed), Beat Goes On (second best song, original change of register during the chorus, beautiful chorus), and Dance2nite (Justin stands out here, partnering with Madonna on a mid-tempo "Everybody" groove - just lovely).
Least favorite tracks (only 2): First Single 4 Minutes didn't rise to the majestic occasion of a lead-off Madonna single. I find it semi-boring, a mish-mash. Sorry. Second least favorite is Spanish Lesson. I've enjoyed Madonna's prior latin flavors, including La Isla Bonita, but this one leaves me a little flat, wanting more.
All in all, I rate this a 5-star Madonna effort. I love the change in direction, challenging us as she works to update and grow her music. I'm looking forward to the Sticky and Sweet Tour, to experience some of these gems live onstage.
CANDY GALORE!!! May 1, 2008 Hard Candy is full of great beats and catchy songs. All of the songs have been stuck in my head at one time or another. My favorite track is "Give It 2 Me." The whole album is bitter sweet! The only song I don't care for is "Spanish Lesson," I skip over it all the time! I have to admit that Madonna has really done an amazing job of keeping up with the times. I can understand why she hired all the "big shots" in the industry. She may be growing older but she is still really sexy! People say that "She needs to act her age," "She's too old for those sexy songs." If I have to remind you people Madonna's whole career has been one sexual journey! I also have to admit I have liked everything that she has done but wasn't a hardcore fan till "Confessions." I love the club/europop sound and she continues to perfect her sound with each new album! I also have a question for everyone that has dissed "Hard Candy?" If you dislike it so much why are you buying her tickets? Peace and good luck, Madonna! This fan is here 2 stay!

Nice box and CD. If you dont want the same as everybody. However, it is a little pricey to get a couple of starlite candies and a couple of extra pictures of Madonna.
Let your body May 30, 2008 I'm pleased with this project. Madonna gives her fans another great album.
1. Candy Shop - Tribal beats within a percussionist's dream. Lyrically simple. A great dance track.
2. 4 Minutes - My only complaint with this great tune is the duet. I would have preferred Madonna do all the vocals. Still, her voice negates all around it. Great beat and synths.
3. Give It 2 Me - Another great dance track. Swinging synths within a simple lyrical delivery. Great job.
4. Heartbeat - A wonderful track with great production.
5. Miles Away - A danceable balladesque style track. Wonderfully written and less simplistic on the lyrics.
6. She's Not Me - Simple statement with great beats.
7. Incredible - The lyrics create jealousy (-; But this is a great song.
8. Beat Goes On - 80s in full swing. A great dance track. Sparkling beats.
9. Dance 2 Night - A wonderful dance track in the vein of Vogue.
10. Spanish Lesson - Percolator dancing and a great tune!
11. Devil Wouldn't Recognize You - The "deepest" track on the LP. A great composition that leaves you thinking.
12. Voices - A balladal style and layered with thought. Great tune. The last two LPs are slower in tempo, yet remain with great intensity.
This LP is a rollercoaster ride of fun and thought.
