A sad and pathetic series of grunts from the disgruntled September 7, 2008 16 out of 62 found this review helpful
What a waste of time! The only people stupid enough to listen to this garbage are the same '60's-fixated slobs who drool all over themselves as they wait in line (shivering with liberal angst) to hear this creep vomit all over our flag in concert. Move on, folks, the '60s are over and this guy still sucks.
WHAT'S OLD IS NEW AGAIN...NOT. August 22, 2008 13 out of 23 found this review helpful
I'm a Randy Newman junkie. Can't get enough. I love his wit, I love his pain, I love his soundtracks and I even loved these songs. . . the first time. Every one of them sounds like something he's done before. From such an original and unique artist this was a complete disappointment.
That said, I still love ya Randy.
good reviews must be coming from Randy Newmans relatives! August 18, 2008 12 out of 32 found this review helpful
I liked Randy Newman's earlier work. This album is terrible. He must have spent a whole week putting it together. That includes the time to write the songs. It's really a shame. I had high hopes for this album.
extremely disappointed August 23, 2008 12 out of 23 found this review helpful
Randy Newman's work as a whole is superb. But this latest offering is, i'm sorry to say, simply not good enough. The lyrics are poor and the melodies are virtually non-existent. He doesn't need the money i'm assuming, so why couldn't he have waited till he had produced something worthy of his standing, or, if his creative juices have dried up, stick to film scores. Sorry to be so harsh and dismissive, but this is the first bad record he has ever made.
This is a fun and interesting disc by Randy Newman August 5, 2008 10 out of 34 found this review helpful
I love the music of Randy Newman. Every track on this disc is great. He is a good singer and one of the best piano players I've ever heard. "Harps and Angels" is Newman's idea of what he imagines heaven will be like. "Easy Street" is a tribute to the city of New Orleans. "Laugh and Be Happy" is a very fun song. Newman makes the piano come alive with exuberant playing here. I love the asian sound of "Korean Parents". This is such a funny song. "A Piece Of The Pie" is Newman's take on the shrinking of the middle class. "A Few Words In Defense Our Country" is a song about how our political leaders today are not as bad as previous leaders from foreign countries. This is a very interesting song. "Feels Like Home" and "Losing You" are heartfelt touching tracks. I love this new disc from Randy Newman.
