5 out of 5 stars Lets Make a Deal!   August 4, 2008

You may be want this box set because you crave better sound quality and are intrigued by the plethora of "unreleased" tracks. Maybe you are a U2 collector enamored by the nice packaging. But more likely, you want to avoid the hefty price tags of the seperate remasters. If placed a check mark next to any of the above, just do yourself a favor and buy it now. The sound quality of each album is definitely better. While the first two albums are mostly mixed louder, War boasts more definition, probably due to the improvement of their recording, mixing, and master tape. Each album is supplemented very nicely by liner notes that provide interesting prefaces, rare pictures and footnotes for each song, including those found on the bonus discs. The rare and unreleased material is enlightening for casual fans, but may be redundant for collectors of rare singles, mixes (New Years Dub), and bootlegs (think Another Time, Another Place). The packaging for this box set is as-smooth-as-silk (really, no plastic) and justifies the purchase by itself. Though printed on quality paper, the included poster is the least impressive part of the package. Bottom line: for the price, this box set is even better than the real thing. Buy it.

5 out of 5 stars A worthy box set   August 10, 2008

When I saw this Deluxe Box Edition being advertised here on Amazon, I knew I had to have it. If I hadn't come across the box set, I would've bought all three deluxe remastered editions anyway (although, it would've cost me a bit more). In any case, not only do you get all three deluxe remastered editions in one box, but you also get a poster which I guess is part of the reason the box set is an Amazon exclusive. Without getting into too many details, each of the remastered albums is a vast improvement over the original counterpart. The sound comes across much brighter and more defined for the most part. And each deluxe edition comes with a bonus disc of live and unreleased recordings. It's especially interesting to hear the band (particularly Bono) in their early, post-adolescent stage as they perform early versions of "Out Of Control", "Boy-Girl", and "Stories For Boys" on the bonus disc for Boy. All the live and unreleased recordings are a necessary asset to any U2 fan, myself included. My only complaint is why do we need four different versions of "New Year's Day" and three different versions of "Two Hearts Beat As One" on the bonus CD for War? They're all enjoyable to a certain extent, but I wished the Edge (who oversaw the remastering and the selection of the rare and unreleased recordings) had included either more live tracks or more tracks that never saw the light of day.

Anyway, if you're a serious U2 fan, you should have the box set as part of your collection. Can't wait for the Deluxe Edition of Live - Under A Blood Red Sky and the DVD for Live At Red Rocks to come out later this year! Let's also hope The Unforgettable Fire will get the Deluxe treatment as well!

3 out of 5 stars Shoddy Workmanship On the Box Itself!   August 27, 2008

First, I'm a huge U2 fan and have no problems at all with the actual contents of the box. My problem is at with how poorly the actual box and its contents were assembled. The glue is clearly coming off on the bindings and at places the edges don't meet, exposing cardboard underneath. The empty CD space was filled with a bonus poster which is nice but did not sufficiently support any weight on the box itself, so the box caves in a bit (or at least mine did in shipping). Again, love the contents only wish they had paid more attention to the details that make this a "Deluxe Edition". In hindsight I would have just bought the discs separately.

5 out of 5 stars Hidden Track   August 7, 2008

There is a hidden track, well maybe not hidden, but there is a 12th track on Boy. I only noticed it because I ripped it into my library and M$ didn't know what to call it. It sounds like a bootleg or demo and I don't think there are any words. I know, not much help, but it is very exciting nonetheless.

5 out of 5 stars Una reedicion excelente   September 15, 2008
