Rediculous... August 29, 2008 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is not music, its just a bunch of talking, ranting, noise, ect...you get the picture. I change the station on the radio every time Serj's or SOAD's complete and utter garbage comes on. One of the lamest excuse for music in the history of rock.
A must own for System fans... October 23, 2007 System of a Down has consistently put out stellar albums year after year and I expected no less from lead singer Serj Tankian's solo project. This isn't like some other solo projects where the album sounds entirely different than the original group's music. This sounds like a System album. It has the creative vocals, the mixture of soft/hard rock present in most songs, the unusual song structures, and well-written lyrics that I've come to expect from any System of a Down album.
Serj's solo project is best compared to System's 1998 self-titled debut. The music and tempo is similar and the vocals are very close (since both albums have little or no vocals from Daron Malakian). The music is somewhat stripped down from recent System ablums, very few guitar solos. He does mix in a fair amount of piano to nice effect, which gives this album a different sound. The message is more political, and left-leaning, than other System records but it is not heavy-handed. You can enjoy the album without caring about politics.
Serj has done a great job of creating a personal album without making it too different from his previous work. Any fan of System will love this album. Even if you have never heard a System of a down song, hard to believe, this is an album well worth picking up.
Couldn't listen to it just once October 25, 2007 A must have for any System of a Down Fan. Not only is this solo album some of serj's best songwriting, but it's also a display of his improved vocals. The songs on the track are anything but similar-sounding. The album is full of musical surprises and loaded lyrics that will please. When I finished the album I had to listen to it again; Once just wasn't enough. Phenomenal.
Beautifully made October 27, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Serj Tankian really did well on his solo....
Very intimite & powerful
Strong Solo Debut October 28, 2007 To keep it plain and simple, real good stuff. Have been a fan of SOAD since the self-titled effort and knew Serge's album had to be worth the trip. From Empty Walls,The Unthinking Majority,Saving Us,The Sky Is Over,to Elect The Dead,it is real strong.Songs of emotion, offbeat and the always expected political views of Serge. It is good to see,no connection to Daron Malakian. It is a pure Serge "solo" effort. It will only make the next SOAD album something to look forward to. Anyway, highly recommended to any SOAD fan or Serge's songwriting techniques.A solid 4.5 stars. One of the better lead singer "solo" albums that has come out in a while.
