absolutely fabulous March 25, 2000 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'm an "older American" who LOVES this CD, but perhaps most people of my age would cringe away from the unusual electronic sound, which might be described as noise upon first listen, and the pretty raw lyrics. I'm here to tell you to listen again until you understand the point. Once you "get it" you'll be delighted by the silliness interlaced with social commentary. The intricate electronic bursts overlaid with live music are spectacular. Add Little Jimmy's vocalizations that move blithely and rapidly from trilling and caterwauling to bass/percussion pounding rap to lilting reggae to "scream-like-a-girl" and you have surprisingly organized, beautifully orchestrated/programmed MUSICAL noise. My favorites include most of the tracks, and are too numerous to mention here, but i would suggest paying special attention to Cocaine and Toupees, Golden i, Kill the Rock, Masturbates, Planet of the Apes, among others, as I found them to be particularly interesting, both musically and vocally. The band's ability to play over and around pre-programmed electronic music exhibits particular technical skill and it appears that Little Jimmy has chosen his back up band for its ability to add to the power and then get out of his way. They don't take themselves seriously and they don't expect us to either. They do, however, take their music seriously, and seem to be "virtual" geniuses at putting it all together. If you don't "get" the odd twists and turns in life and accept them with aplomb, you won't "get" this, either. You either get it or you don't. GET IT. PLAY IT LOUD!

If you're into conventional music, this is not it. I heard Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) for the first time recently and I immediately fell in love. The cd, Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy has completely blown me away. I can't stop listening to it. I have never heard anything like MSI ever. They are an eclectic mix of industrial, rap, punk and metal. That's the best I can describe it. MSI takes you to a whole new level of listening experience. I have to tell you to keep an open mind when first listening to this band. You'll either love them or hate them. I don't think there's any in between. Everytime I listen to them, I completely rock out. CAUTION: When driving and listening to FGWSSS, keep control of your car. GET THIS CD NOW!
when i say WE you say SUCK March 21, 2004 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
If your not familier with MSI then this is the cd to get. It's definately the most original and craziest music out there and it's got 30 tracks! Where else can you get songs about Melissa Joan Hart, Jimmy Page, toupees, 711, and the thirty-third president all on one cd? My favorite songs on this cd have to be Masturbates, Golden I, and J. Once you buy this cd and listen to it, you will either love it or hate it. If you love it, let me warn you, you will be hooked. Hooked enough to want to buy their album "Tight" (good luck finding that one) and their live set "Alienating Our Audience". If you hate it, then go buy some Celine Dion.
Pointless screaming and noise April 25, 2000 7 out of 31 found this review helpful
MSI has absolutely no talent at all. The pointless lyrics go along perfectly with the noise along with them. After seeing them get booed for 30 minutes straight at the Korn concert I can see that others agree with me. Also whats with that song "I hate jimmy page"? I think they just like to make fun of people with talent because they know they're lacking it.
What an underrated band! October 19, 2005 7 out of 14 found this review helpful
This album rocks. In the purest form of what rock should be these days. It's a new direction that I'm afraid will fizzle out and disappear. It's raw, chaotic, original and flawed. Yes, flawed. It's not perfect or refined by any means. But that's why I like it so much.
I don't think a single songs runs past 2:30 on this album, which is why we're given 30 tracks (in alphabetical order). This makes the album blaze past you really fast. It's all good, all aggressive and angry. Most of the lyrics are very satyrical and funny, but they're meant to be. It's not a serious album in any way. It's like a violent petting zoo. Loads of fun.
It must be heard to be understood, no real label covers what this music captures. It defies generes. My favorite songs are Bitches, Clarissa, Faggot, I hate Jimmy Page, and Planet of the apes. This band isn't for everyone, but it's a definate underground favorite. Worth a try.
