I dont have much to say about this than hasen't already been said, but what I will say is that the DVD shows that NIN and Trent are definantly the reincarnation of what Jimi Hedrix was for music in the 70's, and that is make it new. The songs on this DVD were played to near perfect renditions of the ablums they came from, including the songs that I appreciate, from the first record. Unlike Been, this disc showcases the lighter side of the band. The songs weren't as heavy or overplayed like they were on that tour and the bands true talent is let out to shine. And if youre one the people like me who got into their stuff when the first record came out and now you're the parents of children who take up all of your time and dont get to watch MTV no more, you are in for a surpize........SPOILER ALERT.............Trent has a new look, and its not what you're used too.
The Best Tour of 2006 February 28, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Even if your not a real NIN fan, you should very much appreciate this disc. Reznor and Co. have built upon their last great tour of 2000 (documented on the "And All That Could Have Been" DVD and album) and take it several steps further. It contains several classic NIN songs (Terrible Lie, Hurt, Head Like A Hole, etc) accompanied by about 8 tracks from their 2005 release 'With Teeth'. The event is accompanied by an awe-inspiring light and effects show surrounding the band that truly helps to create the perfet ambience for every song. Most of the disc was recorded from the winter 2006 tour with 5 bonus songs from the following winter shows. The HD quality in sight and sound makes you feel like your right in the crowd with enough bass and drums to make your walls shake. The special features include rehearsal sessions from 2005 for the songs 'The Collector', 'The Hand That Feeds' and 'Every Day Is Exactly The Same'. All of these are definitely worth checking out. It also includes two very good music videos for 'The Hand That Feeds' and 'Only'. Still galleries capture the event in a great slideshow. Alternate angles for several songs have been included in the concert footage as well. If you even somewhat like 'And All That Could Have Been', you will want to see this over and over again.
If you are somewhat new to NIN, I would suggest buying the DVD as it includes an interactive discography chronicling all 22 of Reznor's albums and videos with sound clips available from several songs (not included in Blu-ray / HD-DVD versions). The DVD version is presented in 16x9 anamorphic widescreen and dts 5.1 digital surround sound.
However, if you are already versed in Nine Inch Nails and want the best possible sight and sound for your experience, buy the Blu-ray. Things like this are what the technology was invented for. The BD is presented in 16x9 1080p high definition and dolby true-HD 5.1 digital surround sound.
This is truly a fantastic disc that will blow you away! The absolute best concert footage you will have seen in years!!!
TOP NOTCH!!!!!! March 1, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This dvd will blow you away. To begin with the show which is 90 minutes long is shot with absolute accuracy. All band members get plenty of footage. And the picture is just outstanding presented in the 16x9 format which just enhances the experience. Next the audio presented in DTS(if you have the capablities) is explosive. Clear, crisp and envigorating. Truly the best way to hear a live concert. And finally the performance which is spectacular will blow you away. Trent is just superb playing guitar on most of the tracks. And vocally pulls each song off with ease. As far as the band goes the boys do an unbelievable job with tons of energy and precision. Truly a knockout performance by any standard. The rest of 'Beside You In Time' has got 2 videos, 3 rehearsal videos(which are truly great) and a bunch of still shots. Plus there is a body of work section where you get to see all of the 'Halos' and also sample a couple of tracks off of each....very cool. For the price and quality this is a sure bet.

You should, upon purchase of this dvd, sufficiently prepare to be blown away. I got to see NIN twice during the "with teeth" circuit (once on the rail in front of the inestimable Aaron North) and it was a rapturous experience. NIN kills it live and this incarnation of the band has the chops - even if you didn't like "with teeth" (and shame on you for that) you should buy it for "wish" alone.
THE Pinnacle Achievement in the Concert DVD Arsenal March 3, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I first have to get this out of the way: I've been an obsessive follower of the band ever since '94. A lot of people feel that Reznor pretty much expelled his artistic prowess on The Downward Spiral. He was on drugs, the music was tortured, the man was tortured, Nine Inch Nails seemed extremely real, extremely risky.
Trent has since sobered up, written more records. But for people to lay claim that an artist's best work is done when they're strung up on god-knows-what substances is unfair and probably wrought from drug users who will bet their life that creativity is best whilst under the influence (and science has proven otherwise and explained why people think being high is the best road to artistic savvy). Trent has taken his knowledge of his past mistakes, put it together with his knowledge of drama and performance (he was a thespian, after all, in his youth), and has beat the living crap out of any tour he has ever embarked on with 2005's and 2006's "With Teeth" tours. Trent's number one goal to reach with his art is "Honesty". And "Beside You In Time" captures that honesty moreso than any other NIN live documentation. "Closure", the documentary from 94's "Self Destruct"/"Outside" tours captured the rawness of Reznor's self-torture. "And All That Could Have Been" was a worthy effort, but sadly it lacked in that emotional catharsis. It seemed everyone was going through the motions of what they did for the tour five years back. And the filming didn't help either. Filmed throughout the "Fragility 2.0" tour, one audio track plays while director Rob Sheridan compiled show after show together to create an almost montage effect in each song. You could tell Trent's lips and the instrumentation weren't synching together (that, and his clothes changed with every shot). The effect was lost on me.
Then I heard that Trent would be filming two shows at the end of the Winter 2006 "With Teeth" leg. Immediately I thought [...], he knows what he did wrong with 'AATCHB' and is now correcting those mistakes." And boy was I right: I can't count how many times I started emitting those shaky laughs of "Jesus . . . whoa man!" throughout my first viewing. The cool thing is: I'm still doing that, and I think I'm on my fourth viewing. It all lies in that honesty factor: with only two shows to putz around with, things synch up, you can tell that the video was taken at the same location as the audio. What happens onstage wasn't compiled together to look cool. This stuff REALLY happened. (And I can vouch for that since I saw four different dates on each leg of the tour--this was what it was like being there).
My favorite parts include the rough cathartic moments: the transition from "Love Is Not Enough" into "You Know What You Are?" was the first "Whoa man!"; the end of "Terrible Lie" with guitarist Aaron North's abuse of mic stand and amp and Trent's destroying of his refreshment table; the light show of "Gave Up" could give you seizures; and the end of "The Big Come Down" and "Head Like A Hole" leaves you thinking "How the hell can they afford to do all that night after night?!"
The extra features are awesome too. The summer tour footage is a repetition of the "AATCHB" scenario, and sadly loses some of its gusto to numerous shows being shot. But it was mainly captured to show the light show. And the rehearsal footage: Yowzas!! Again, there's that: "They can afford to do that?!" They beat the [...] out of their equipment even in rehearsal!!!
Nine Inch Nails Live gives it their all every night. That's the only way they would have it. "Beside You In Time" is the DVD that shows a band "giving it their all". I've read rumors that this may be considered the best concert DVD ever made--and if you can get past your retro grip on Woodstock and The Song Remains the Same you'd also agree with those reviews.
This is by far THE concert DVD. If I wasn't a fan of NIN, this would be the product that would have sold me onto them. On first viewing, turn out your lights, turn up your volume. Happy viewing . . .
