1 out of 5 stars Who do they think they are?   February 27, 2008

So, first off, this band annoyed me from day one. They aped Alice In Chains in every way possible, right down to their name and their logo. I saw them in concert a few years back, and they were even worse. I've never seen a frontman spend so much time slinging dumb rock-talk cliches at a crowd in my life! they were on stage for forty five minutes and I think they played five songs. the rest was yack yack yack.

Now, for the most part, I've ignored Godsmack because, like Linkin Park and all the other Big Radio Rock these days, all their songs sound the same.

Well, a buddy of mine who actually likes these guys told me they had a new song that's totally different from anything else they've done. Turns out it's this Led Zep cover they did... and named their "best of" after it.

Can these guys think of nothing for themselves???

Down with Godsmack!

This is a great compilation, for sure. However, I would have loved to have had their cover of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" on here too. Maybe it was a legal thing, but an oversight none the less.

5 out of 5 stars A Decade of Godsmack   August 30, 2008

This compilation is a great way to connect with their music. The bonus DVD features an accoustic set that compliments the tracks on the CD. (The reason I purchased this on CD from Amazon and not iTunes is because of the DVD).
Five stars because I relate to the obvious influences of Alice in Chains and think the DVD's drum duet with Sully and Shanon Larkin is worth the price alone. If you need a further fix and already have all of Godsmack's stuff, check out Another Animal (which is Godsmack minus Sully and instead Ugly Kid Joe's Whitfield Crane).
Play it loud!

5 out of 5 stars Buy it for the live DVD   October 21, 2008

I have been a fan of Godsmack's music for years now, and my favorite release by them is "The Other Side", which is all acoustic songs with some acoustic versions of older songs. I bought this CD and DVD mainly for the live show of Godsmack at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas. It was an acoustic show, with most of "The Other Side" material played live, and it was worth the price of this CD and DVD. Being a fan, I have all of the songs on this CD already on their other discs, except for the cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times, Bad Times" (which is a good straight forward cover of the original), but the DVD is what got me to buy it, and that alone was worth the price for me. The DVD is presented in 16x9 widescreen with Dolby 5.1 sound. Highly recommended for Godsmack fans.
