Disturbed's best album June 19, 2008

First off, what awesome cover art!
Ten Thousand Fists was half very good and half decent, but Indestructible is 60% great and 40% good. The vocals are lighting fast at times while also being melodic. The lead singer has a voice that sounds so unique you know it's Disturbed as soon as the first word is spoken. The guitar playing is top notch for this type of band as well. It's not mind blowing (though the Torn solo took me by surprise), but it is nice to hear solos for a change in this day and age. The only downside is that some songs sound similar and there is never a slow song to change the pace of the album.
I'm into classic rock and old school metal, but I would be glad to hear kids listen to this over anything on MTV or rap. Call it nu-metal if you want, at least it has metal in the name.

this album is a total let down. only reason im giving it 2 stars is because they can play instruments. so i will give them credit. but as far as the music goes, this album stinks. disturbed used to be filled such emotion that you just wanted to start thrashing around listening to the awesome guitar riffs and wild drums, but now its like theyve become today's "kinder, gentler metal band.almost like theyve been pressured by the recording company and/or someones grandmother to "play something nicer". heck as far as im concerned theyve lost metal status. save your money.

When I first saw the cover art for Indestructible, I thought it looked suspiciously like the art for the previous album (or like the cover to a single from that album). When I finally heard the Indestructible, I figured out why; it's pretty much the same album as Ten Thousand Fists. The unfortunate thing is that I actually prefer this album to its immediate predecessor,--I think most of the songs are technically better--but the feeling of sameness that accompanies the tunes detracts from them. If Indestructible had been released first, I would have a much higher opinion of it.
Similarly, if Indestructible and Ten Thousand Fists had both been released before Believe, I would hold them in even higher regard. I feel Believe is by far their best album as it shows them much more willing to experiment a bit with their sound. They mixed the heavy with the melodic to greater effect on songs like "Prayer," "Believe" and "Remember," and they didn't even mind throwing in some odd meter here and there. (Catnip for prog nerds like myself.) Given that they've since released two albums that sound exactly the same as each other, I fear they've settled on what they feel to be their definitive sound and that we won't be hearing much innovation from them in the future.
That said, there are definitely some good tracks on here. The first two especially stand out. "Inside the Fire" may be one of their poppiest tracks yet--I keep getting the image of dancing girls performing some nifty synchronized choreography during the chorus--but it lends to its incredible catchiness. I really like the new recording of "Perfect Insanity," which I didn't really care for much in its demo incarnation. Honestly, if you took the standout tracks from this, the standouts from Ten Thousand Fists and combined them with some of the B-sides from the Ten Thousand Fists recording sessions, you'd have an incredibly solid album on the level of The Sickness.

listened to the ape vocals and i too got down with the sickness, luckily
it went away, when i gave away the cd.
maybe this band has evolved like the ape, but i doubt it.

I have to say that I can't agree with other reviews- I couldn't find that "new sound" and step forward other people found in new Disturbed album. Every single song sounds thesame and for me it is just one of the "I hope it ends soon" album. No offense to the band, which I liked before, but they are just boring with their new CD. It is true that the vocals are deep and powerful and that music sound is fast and heavy, but does every song has to be like a part of the other one. I tried to like that album, but it's like a Metallica St. Anger- you try to find something, a little thing that you enjoy, but that feeling quickly fade away.
