This disc is nearly "Heaven". March 16, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'd call this the perfect time for a Live hits album, and if ever there was a disc of theirs to top "Throwing Copper", this is it. "Awake" is great because it includes 19 tracks, and they're in chronological order, and of course for the music itself. Everything is here from "Pain Lies On The Riverside", "Lightning Crashes", "Lakini's Juice", "Dolphin's Cry", and "Overcome". Plus the cover of "I Walk The Line", and the unreleased track "We Deal In Dreams". The only song I miss is "Freaks". Overall it's a great collection from one of the better bands of the past 10-15 years.
What Are You People Listening To? June 2, 2006 3 out of 37 found this review helpful
I read with interest peoples comments. Life affirming stuff...people wrote. I looked at some reviewers other likes and saw that they liked the same type of music as me. They sound like U2 sometimes apparently or erm Led Zep etc. Best CD ever someone wrote of their album Throwing Copper. Hey your words, not mine.
Then I got this album. What are you people listening to? Take REM on a very bad day (and that is baaaaad) mix in The Waterboys minus the songwriting ability and sprinkle with a little Nickelback (and that is not a good thing) and voila you have this band. Yes that bad. The singer sounds like he's going to have a stroke in the choruses. Weak weak weak. A duet with Shelby Lynne tells you how crass this all is.
Hey guys, if you are that easily impressed Ive got a sparkly pen you can buy off me.
People call this alt rock, I agree, it is an alternative to anything worth calling rock. Avoid. Seesh.
LOVE IT! April 8, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was SO suprised when I was CD shopping and stumbled upon this CD. I had no idea they even had a greatest hits CD out. I have always liked Live so, I snatched it up immediately. I couldn't be happier. There is SO much on here beyond just their hits. There is unreleased songs & early, early stuff plus it is all remastered....gotta love that. A deffinite must!
Live or not? October 23, 2005 2 out of 34 found this review helpful
So is this a live album or a studio album? The "[LIVE]" suffix on the title is way confusing. If it's a studio compilation, I'm buying it.
GREAT HITS COLLECTION FROM AN UNDERRATED BAND: 4.5 STARS February 10, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
LIVE IS AN AMAZING BAND. WHEN WILL THE PUNKS DOWN AT MTV EVER LEARN THIS? ALL OF THE SONGS COMPILED ON THIS CD ARE GOOD. THE TRACKS THAT STAND OUT THE MOST ARE ''I ALONE'', ''LIGHTNING CRASHES'', ''HEAVEN'', ''LAKINI'S JUICE'', AND LIVE'S COVER OF JOHNNY CASH'S ''I WALK THE LINE''. PEOPLE CALLED THIS BAND THE POOR MAN'S U2. I STRONGLY DISAGREE. LIVE, AS QUIET AS IT'S KEPT, REALLY PAVED THE WAY FOR ALTERNATIVE BANDS LIKE CREED, SWITCHFOOT, AND OTHER ALTERNATIVE BANDS LIKE THAT. FANS OF ROCK MUSIC SHOULD DEFINITELY BEGIN TO GET INTO THIS BAND BY STARTING WITH THIS CD. THERE'S ANOTHER VERSION OF THIS CD THAT COMES WITH A DVD OF THEIR MUSIC VIDEOS. IT MIGHT COST A LITTLE MORE, BUT IT MAKES THE EXPERIENCE EVEN BETTER.
