Dark Light December 1, 2005 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is one of my favorite HIM cds so far. It is really good, I bought a copy as soon as it came out. If your thinking of buying one, its one of the best you could get. I reccomend it to anyone.

What can i say... this is by far the most "softy" album by him.. they started like a metal gothic band.. back in 1996/7.. now.. they have done what great bands usually do.... go to America and turn into pop..for money? glory? doesnt matter anyways..
If you like pop.. youll love the album... if you dont, and you are a him fan.. youll cry...

Frighteningly forgettable. Nothing to hate here, nothing to love. No emotional response is evoked at all by this unremarkable CD. This was my first real listen to HIM and will be my last.
Let Me Bleed You this Song November 26, 2005 I really like this album although I was initially disappointed. I have been a big fan of H.I.M. since Razorblade Romance. Unlike past albums the heavy guitar edge is gone in favor of focusing on the vocals, synths, and overall final production. The final result is a dark and mysterious tone that will draw you into their world by pictures painted in words and emotions made in music. Not anything like the heavier albums of their past but never the less a worthy and memorable offering.
3 stars because it's HIM, but come on guys... January 2, 2006 this just sounds like a throwaway album. the songs are all well produced and definitely have the signature HIM sound, but almost too much so. it feels like every chord progression, every tempo change, and every lyrical cliche is from another HIM song. The album kind of just goes by and none of the songs make a particularly strong impression. All of their previous 4 albums seemed to break some new ground, but on Dark Light they seem to settle for the lowest common denominator of the style that they're known for. And they seem to be having a lot less fun doing what they do. Ville's lyrics on their early albums were cliche-ridden, but he seemed to relish the pure cheesiness of it all. Now he seems to just be going through the motions, turning out more of the same cliches about "my heart" and "my love". the album is not overtly more poppy than the others, but simply more bland. if they were to move in a more poppy direction i would probably still listen to them, as long as they break new ground. however, if they release another album like Dark Light i will probably not be a HIM fan any more.
