2 out of 5 stars apparently so far this album has only been reviewed by 13 year old girls   June 6, 2006

I was very happy to see thatAFI was going to finally have a new record out. They were pretty dormant in 2005 and left one to wonder if they were still around. Then, there was talk of this new record coming out. The first time I heard "Miss Murder" I was like you have got to be kidding me. But after awhile, it kinda grew on me. At least enough to wanna check the album out. MY brother and I finally found it online about two weeks ago, and after Sing the Sorrow this is one of the biggest disappointments to ever be heard. When everyone gave up on them after STS came out, I was still a strong loyal fan because when seen for what it was, it was a work of greatness. Every song had something to add to the album, they were all solidly placed, and the lyrics, vocals and musicianship were all top notch, even if they did go a little "emo". This album is the exact opposite. Instead of just being a little emo, or even really emo, they just went completely pop on us, more than half of these songs are generic and boring (especially the terrible filler track "Kill Caustic"), the vocals are the worst they have ever been, and it's too short to feel solid. Whenever we got the record, we were like "Miss Murder better be the worst song on this CD" but it ended up being the best one. That song, track 4, and track 11 are really the only songs on here that have any staying power. Oh, and I might add, the intro no this album is the worst intro theyve ever had. It sounds like a girl singing over rap music. Yes, they put a rap beat in there. The whole thing is stupid. Oh, and if you've seen the video for their new single, it is also extremely stupid. On STS, they wore all kinds of makeup and stuff but it was just like a look to go with the feel of the album. On this album, they jsut look stupid. Especially becuase Davey and Jade look like scene clowns, and then Hunter and Carson just look like average people who arent wearing any makeup or weird clothes. Oh, and all the techno stuff they dabble into in this album, none of it fits it just sounds forced in there. After hearing them do Black Sails and The Art of Drowning (IMO, the best album), and then the direction they went in on Sing The Sorrow, I thought this record was going to be truly great. But instead, it is nothin more than average, generic, and just a run for the pop market. Other than the 3 tracks I mnetioned, there isn't really anything worth hearing on this. Track 5 made me want to kill myself it was so depressing and slooooow. I hope their next record is somewhat of a return to form of the previous 3 albums in their career with some new ideas that are actually GOOD. After this though, I won't be holding my breath. If you're gonna change, change for the better.

than listen to this album all the way through. i had a bad feeling about this, but i had no idea how right i would be. A complete turn around from everything i liked about this band. this is nothing but a watered down, skeltal version of a band that used to have clout. they music is just so different from what they used to do. before they had power and intensity in their music, now its just slow, mechanized techno junk without a single trace of originallity. I can't deny that in the beginning of their career, they never had the strongest lyrics and here it seems they are reverting back to that. Even Sing the Sorrow was better written than this.

I realize it doesnt matter a single bit what i think about this, because it is way too late to do anything about it. i guess its just a shame to see a band i have followed for so long take such a terrible turn. there's nothing wrong with you if you like the new album, i guess its just not me. so i wish you all the best with your little AFI. Just keep in mind, they used to rock so much harder and brought it like you wouldnt believe. now all thats left is another makeup wearing, mainstream spewing, dime-a-dozen, emo band.

I am a longtime fan of AFI. I own every released album from Answer That and Stay Fashionable to the new, and much less desirable, decemberunderground. I understand that from every cd to the next, AFI has a tendency to completely change their sound. There was one huge difference between all of their changed sounds to this new Sing the Sorrow to decemberunderground. They finally changed for the worse.

No, I do not think AFI has "sold out". They have just changed. I don't know what triggered this terrible change, but I don't think it was a bad attempt to become popular. I have more faith in AFI then that. But honestly, as soon as I heard their first single, Miss Murder, I was scared. It was the first song by AFI that i have not liked at all. It sounded like an extremely bad combination of Green Day and My Chemical Romance. I later noticed that they had posted another song upon their myspace website, Kill Caustic. This song would not have been half as bad as Miss Murder, if it were not for the screaming. I can understand a small amount of screaming to show intensity, but this is really overdoing it.

Though I had these worries, I purchased the cd, thinking that they must have at least one good sounding song on the entire cd. Boy, was I wrong. If you have the american version of Sing the Sorrow, you know after ...But Home is Nowhere until you hear the hidden track This Time Imperfect? The weird little piano sounds? Well yes, they do sound pretty cool, but AFI seems to REALLY like those types of sounds, and they are ALL OVER this new album.

In addition to all of this utter garbage on this cd, AFI has adapted a new theme in their lyrics: suicide. Okay, I can understand one, maybe two songs about suicide on a CD, but nearly every track on this entire CD has something to do with suicide, and if not with suicide, death. On their old albums, you hear poetic beautiful lyrics, now you hear lyrics that make you want to cry and cut yourself in a corner.

AFI fan or not, nobody should buy this album. It can only be described with one simple word: bad. Sorry to be mean Davey, but try to focus less on your make-up and more on your music.

I was horribly disappointed in the new cd. AFI has completely sold out. I had stayed with them through the Sing the Sorrow cd but i can't do it anymore. It's become way too emo with a twist of bad techno. If you are a fan of their classic sound, i doubt you are going to like it. If you like the typical sound of bands nowadays then yes im sure you will like it.

Over a very good listen of this album, I have to say that I am let down tremendously..let me explain...First of all..I dont even think these guys were in the same room when they recorded this album. I mean this album isnt even a "ROCK" record. It sounds like they sent each member in one by one to contribute whatever they had to contribute and let the producer just turn these songs into pieces of pop music. I am not gonna get all elitist but I DID see AFI back in 97 and have been a fan for like 10 years and loved them until June 6th. Now I just have to question their cred and their motives. Over the last ten years they have slowly changed their image from traditional cali-punk skate kids, to misfit worshipping rockers, to leaders of the new school death kids. I loved Black sails, and I loved all Hallows Eve, and I even love the art of drowning and most of sing the sorrow. But I just didnt fall in love with this record. While alot of the songs SOUND very slick and very catchy, they just dont rock. Even the ones that almost sound like they have a hardcore edge, get lost by the time you get to the chorus. Its very commercial, very poppy, and maybe too many studio tricks..Now I see why this album took so long to come out..Im sure everyone on here will disagree with my review, but I am just being honest, as a now former fan.
