Amazing... January 16, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
First off, I do not listen to industrial or anything really similar to this. I am into power metal and melodic death metal. I heard this girl did the strings on an episode of Metalocalypse and so i figured i'd check this one out. The whole cd is amazing, very epic, emotional, classical and melodic...the girl actually does Sweep-arpeggios on track 3!!! its awesome! Her voice and vocal harmonies are fantastic and i love the few times she actually incorperates screaming into it. If they redid this album with a real drummer, as opposed to electronic drums, it would be a killer goth/power metal album. But overall this cd has something for everyone. Beautifully atmospherical and this gorgeous violinist has some real talent. Especially with the vocal harmonies. I'd look harder for a cheaper version of it though, i got it for 20 bucks on a link off of her website.

Emilie is the new Dead......... June 12, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Emilie Autumn is one cleaver girl...and brilliant. She seems to have taken parts of all the great female artisits that opened doors for obsure artists over the past few decades, and has come up with a sound of her own. I hear bits of Kate Bush, Nina Hagen, Bjork, Siouxsie, Sinead O'Connor, amongst others slapped with a heavy dose of Gothic/ industrial and now we have Emilie...and Emilie is MAD!
I honestly can't quit listening to "Liar"...a song that clunks and pumps along with bitter lyrics that ends up a vocal howl. You can feel her fury and the lover who spurned her. This song strongly reminds me of two other songs: "Troy" by Sinead O'connor and "Damage I've Done" by the Heads just because of it's subject matter, and it shares raw emotion just like the Heads and Sinead and brings it's own fury and sadness to the table.
"Swallow" sounds Bjork influenced on a Midol day...and her fury is subtle...but there.
The opener, "Opheliac" begins with a clasical harpsicord...and builds almost immeadiately to an industrial fury.
Emilie's voice takes on many tones and screams, not unlike Nina Hagen in her "Nunsexmonkrock" days when she used tons of vocal layerings.
One fault Emilie does, though, is sometimes she sinks into lyrical repetition. Most of the time it works because she changes how she repeats a lyric vocally, but in the song "God Help Me", the repeated "God Help Me" is barely changed at all...and it is repeated almost endlessly for well over a minute without much change in the sound of her voice or the instruments.
As stated earlier, Emilie owes alot to her predessors, but she belongs among them for taking bits and throwing in stuff of her own for something startling fresh and new.
VERY highly reccomended
The Circus has come to town! September 13, 2007 2 out of 43 found this review helpful
This chick is hot and loves to play the violin but doesn't she resemble a clown? Well let me tell you this clown can spank me with her violin stick and make beautiful music!
Emilie rox!
Impressed and surprised! December 27, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A friend had me listen to "The Art of Suicide" and I decided to track down the the album, which was a little tough since this work has to be imported here in the U.S. I was really impressed by the lyrical intelligence and wit. Emilie's instrumental and vocal training isn't just evident, it's clear that she worked hard to have such excellent command of her playing and singing. And c'mon, how often do you really get to indulge in some solidly Victorianesque dark and distrubing songs featuring a violin/harpsichord + synthesizer? I'm only going with 4 stars becuase sometimes the synthesizer helps and other times it REALLY detracts from the songs. That's a minor complaint and I'll definitely be buying her next albums - she has a lot of promise and I love what I've heard so far! If you're interested - check out "Marry Me" and you'll know if it's for you - great lyrics!
