A change from the norm, but a good change. March 3, 2008 The Scarecrow is definitely worth buying, if you are already into power metal. It doesn't have the same feel as the metal opera, but that's okay. Many of the tracks on this album are quite superb. Devil in the Belfry is easily my favorite off the album. What kind of Love is an excellent ballad, and Lost in Space is a little Bon Jovi esk, but that's fine as it is still a fun song to listen to, even if it is a little poppy. 4/5 stars.
The Scarecrow Rocks! March 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
From the begining to the end this album has a hold on you with Tobias Sammet's haunting voice that takes you back to an old school rock sound. He is a true artist and definately needs to be heard.
Amazing. Pure and Simple. April 22, 2008 The Scarecrow was my first foray into Avantasia. I had never even heard of Tobias Sammet before in my life. So it was all the more shocking when I discovered that I really like this CD. From start to finish, every song is memorable and catchy. All of the additional players in this game certainly add considerable greatness to the fold. Jorn Lande, in particular, is magnificent here, possibly trumping anything else he has ever done in his career. I personally do not care for Sammet's voice. It's just a little too screechy and uncontrolled. But when he blends it in with everyone elses' voices, it sounds wonderful. Michael Kiske is also good here, as well as that other dude (can't remember his name...). As others have stated here, the title track is the resident "epic", though it really is too long. They could have easily cut out the three minutes of noise in the middle of it. But when Lande starts belting it out, oh my God. It will knock your socks off. And I mean that literally. You will have to buy new socks. But anyway, I think the only dud on this whole CD is "I Don't Believe in Your Love". Other than that, every single song is outrageously good. Get this CD as soon as possible. And don't forget the socks...
Avantasia the masterpiece that fell July 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Avantasia the scarecrow is a masterpiece of of tobias's best work to date but there was one song in there that didnt make the masterpiece list carry me over now i dont know why but it was more of a kill me slowely than poppy balled the other one that i didnt like so much just because of the on going was twisted i think that khan my god could have had a better job or piece to play made him from a symphonic power operatic singer to just this guy in the background no one wanted to listen to.
Although i will say that the scarecrow is one of the best songs because of the great drum beat at the beginning shelter from the rain has a very jummpy and poppy feeling to it and devil and the felfry all of these are exelent songs but more importantly alice cooper "the toy master" at first i was thinking why would tobias put someone like that on a metal opera type cd but as i started listening to the song i thought to my self i have to hear more and 2 weeks later wow my favorite song
Great album August 19, 2008 My favorite avantasia album thus far, "The Scarecrow" is a great ballad, Bob Cately has an amazing voice filled with emotion-it works great with Tobias Sammet.
