Another Heavy Stuff From DA March 12, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent album, if you are a true fan of this band grab this one, thanks guys you're back.
Really strong return.... April 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A strong return to form...like Act3, and alot less like the last CD.... And I have to agree with the reviewer who recomended the new live Skinlab CD...the advance tracks have sounded unbelievable, and just prove how incredible the music has been for decades coming from the Bay Area.... Skinlab SkinnedAlive.....check it out!
Heavier, modern sound at the expense of good hooks April 24, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I appear to be in the minority here, but I have only heard two or three decent songs off this new album. "Sonic Beatdown" is a good example in my mind of how most of the songs on the CD sound: a more modern style of metal, and aggressive, but the riffs and vocal melodies themselves sound generic to me.
It's not that I am not a fan of newer styles of metal, it's just that the songs themselves to me aren't that catchy or original. BTW: I thought there were some killer songs off "Art of Dying", but they represented only 30-40% of the CD's total songs.
If you're considering buying this CD, take a listen to the songs via Amazon here or the band's MySpace site.
Frickin' Great - 4.5 stars... February 27, 2008 Wow...Truth be told, I had low hopes for this release. I think I gave The Art of Dying an overrated review. This album is more of what you might of expected or wanted instead of The Art of Dying. The album as a whole and the songs individually are WAY better. There's some great musicianship, catchy riffs, tasteful solos, vocals, surprising twists, you name it. If you like Act III, you will definitely like this one! Come on, buy the album so they can go out on tour...the packaging is pretty nice. It has a cardboard sleeve over the jewel case, nice intricate artwork. The inside booklet folds out to a mini poster of the album artwork. cool. old skool. You know the new Metallica is going to stink, so buy this and feel better NOW.
Death Angel Still Delivers Fresh Souding Music March 13, 2008 Part One: Killing Season Killing Season seems to pick up where The Art of Dying Left off - and let me be very clear...that is a very good thing. Like The Art of Dying, Killing Season exhibits mature song writing without sacrificing the energy or heaviness inherent to the band's core sound. So, in my opinion, Killing Season continues the long trend of amazing albums from a band that helped to define a genre of music so many years ago.
Part Two: Live DVD So, one of the great things about Death Angel are their lives shows. They are a solid live band from start to finish; and this DVD caputes that live sound very well. It was filmed in 2003 and the band plays songs from their first three releases (with an emphasis on songs from The Ultra-Violence). It is a great addition to their impressive new studio album. You will not be disappointed by this double disc set.
