1 out of 5 stars What happened?   May 13, 2008

In complete honesty...Filter was my favorite band. But after such a weak effort, I couldn't be more dissapointed in Filter. I really tried to like this album, I really did. But I just can't. And I think Richard Patrick knows it too. I recently went to a show to see them. Filter played almost two full hours of their amazing work. Can you guess how many songs they played off this new album? Only two. That shows me they're not even confident in their new material. After 3 amazing albums, is this fourth album all you have left, Rich?

2 out of 5 stars Not the Filter I've been waiting for, and don't particularly care for what I got.   May 14, 2008

I've been a Filter fan since their first album, and it was their darker side that I liked the most. Dark, moody, and atmospheric heavy rock that had a sound all of it's own. That sound was Filter to me and that is what I was hoping for on this album. Songs like I Will Lead You, Hey Man Nice Shot, Columind, You Walk Away, It Can Never Be The Same are what I was looking for. But even the "lighter" songs on the other albums were better than these. I feel like Army of Anyone had a closer sound than this new album, and better songs. I hate to say it. But the only song I bought was The Wake. The Amalgamut is a FAR superior album.
Another reviewer said on iTunes that they sound like a heavier U2. Well......... I HATE U2. And to have that comparison even on the table makes me puke a little in my mouth.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Rock Album   July 3, 2008

Its a time were music still sucks with the MTV pressing crappy bands, Emo, wanna be so called punk bands, pre made bands, tools of the America Record Industry. Some people just can't enjoy a good Rock album anymore. There expecting something simple, such as The Strokes,The Killers, AFI, My Chimical Romance, and all the other bands that fall under that style of music. Yet Filter, minus everyone else, has released a good amount of music that will keep fans happy. There are certain people that wanted to hear the old filter, but bands change. Look at Metallica (The Load - Saint Anger years). This cd is amazing. Army of Anyone was a great band, but the STP brothers are back with STP. I had the chance to see Filter in Kuwait back in March at the Myspace concert. And Patrick before the show was walking around talking to everyone, siging cds, giving out tshirts. He is a great person. I even got a pic taken with him. So take the time and give this cd a chance. Its rock, not MTV crap they have made you listin to.

4 out of 5 stars Welcome back Filter.   May 14, 2008

Finally, after a lengthy hiatus Filter is back. It's refreshing to see them active once again. With the release of this album we get a slightly updated version of Filter. Containing new members and a modernized sound we see what post-rehab Richard can churn out. The sound may be different but hints of past Filter can still be heard throughout the entire album. It's loaded with some great tracks too. Some songs that stand out among the rest are "What's Next", "Lie After Lie", and "I Keep Flowers Around". My track ratings would be...

1. Soldiers of Misfortune - 9/10
2. What's Next - 10/10
3. The Wake - 9.5/10
4. Cold (Anthem For The Damned) - 9.5/10
5. Hatred Is Contagious - 8.5/10
6. Lie After Lie - 10/10
7. Kill The Day - 3/10
8. The Take - 9/10
9. I Keep Flowers Around - 10/10
10. In Dreams - 10/10
11. Only You - 9/10
12. Can Stop This - 8/10

Overall : 87% B

However, despite being a good album it still disappoints me to hear the original Filter style disappearing with each album. It seems that Richard nowadays is more focused on creating a sonic anthem rather than an angry industrial mantra. Don't get me wrong it's still a great album but I miss tracks like "The Missing" and "Welcome to the Fold" from previous Filter releases. It actually isn't a huge departure from the style of "The Amalgamut" but something in the sound is different that I just cant put my finger on. Anyway, most Filter fans that stuck around long after their Short Bus days and into The Amalgamut era will still find something to enjoy on this album. It's worth a purchase, not only for the music, but to support a great band.

1 out of 5 stars Not what i was hoping for   May 14, 2008

i've been a vocal filter fan since short bus, doing everything i can to get my friends as excited about their music as i am. after seeing them a few times in concert, you can understand how much i was anticipating the new release. sadly, it was a big disappointment. maybe age is getting to them, but i feel like richard patrick and the guys just kind of mailed this one in. if this is the direction filter is heading, then i guess i'm going to have to start looking for someone else to bug my friends about.
