Awesome Album by an Awesome Individual August 19, 2000 Daniel (Savannah, GA United States) Voltaire has done it again. This CD is wonderfully put together, with songs of love, loss, humor, revenge and all those other little things that a good Goth needs. I've met him twice (DragonCon '99 and '00) and he's one of the coolest people I've ever met! I got this CD at Dcon '00 and have listened to it nonstop ever since!
All hail the king of goth! (not dunces) August 19, 2000 Miki (New York) It seems like Voltaire can't make a bad CD. Every song of his is filled with beatiful melodies and poignantly humorous lyrics that fill even the hungriest of gothic appetites. He skillfully manages to bridge many opposite worlds in his music, classical and pop, child's and adult's. While songs n the Devil's Bris sound more like European folk songs, Almost Human is more like modern pop set to folk instruments. He displays a fondness for childish play on songs like El Barquito while singing graphic tunes like the Headless Waltz and The Last Word. Voltaire is a truly unique and gifted songwriter unlike any other (Even though some people think he sounds like Weird Al or *ick* the Dave Matthews Band!)
Damn he's good August 26, 2000 Nick (RI) Almost human is simply amazing. I was hoping i wasn't going to be disappointed with it(bands have a tendency to do that)and i wasn't. he's managed to change his style somewhat without losing the feel of his first cd(which i also have not stopped listening to i might add) It will captivate you just as bris had. I find myself singing dead girls at inoppurtune times, such as in restaurant, or various family-oriented establishments. If you keep listening to his songs, they don't lose quality, for they always seem to have some sort of deeper meaning, sometimes from someone else's point of view. They simply get better and better each time you listen to them. I really can't say enough about his cd, it's just so excellent, and he's even more comical in person, so if you can catch his act sometime, it's well worth it
To good for words! September 5, 2000 Ok...so, I'll write a few anyway! Although, I am still speachless on how perfect this peice is! I just picked it up and I can't get enough of it! Feathery Wings, just blows my mind. And of course, just like in The Devil's Bris, sweet Voltaire has not lost his wit. Dead Girls, Headless Waltz and Alchemy Mondays definitly prove that! Nothing compares with it but his first! BOTH SO WORTH PICKING UP!!!!
Voltaire's Second Masterpeice September 9, 2000 Alan Davis (California) i got "The Devil's Bris" a couple months ago and thought it to be my favorite cd. But this tops even that. The song "God Thinks" expresses very close to my religious view, and the singing on "Feathery wings" is amazing. The satiric comments on religion in general are brilliant. Buy this CD!!
