GOOD MUSIC SELLS ITSELF (GEORGE JONES) May 26, 2002 4 out of 16 found this review helpful
I WOULD CONSIDER GEORGE JONES A LIVING LEGEND, AND THERE IS NOT TOO MANY AROUND. BUT SEEING AS HOW OLE GEORGE HAS MADE HIS PLACE IN COUNTRY MUSIC HISTORY, I SAY "TOO MUCH OF GEORGE JONES IS NOT A GOOD THING". TRY SOME MERLE HAGGARD, WAYLON JENNINGS, VERN GOSDIN, ETC ETC....
One of the two greatest male country singers of all time March 2, 2000 Leonard M. Feder (USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Maybe #1 of all time. But Don Williams has an incredible voice and delivery. You have to hear, if you havent already, George Jones singing He Stopped Loving Her Today. If you cry at movies you'll cry at this. This is one country singer who sure wasn't made out of a cookie cutter. That song is the most emotional I've heard, by the most emotional singer I can think of. Another favorite on this album is about a conversation with Elvis and Fred Flintstone. Yabba dabba doo, the king is gone, and so are you (George's wife).
George Jones nees more radio air play!!!! September 15, 1998 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This album is simply great. It is terrible that country radio stations won't play this great music. I love all country music and it is important not to forget the legeds that built it. Play some Jones if you want to hear good country music, the classic way.
George Jones at his EPIC Best September 24, 1998 Joe Taylor (Fort Wayne) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When George Jones signed to EPIC Records at the prodding of then wife Tammy Wynette and her producer, Billy Sherrill, country music history as well as HITS-history was made. Epic now offers some of the biggest from this pairing. Listeners will find ten times the emotion in Jones' original A PICTURE OF ME (WITHOUT YOU) than there was in the Lorrie Morgan cover and they will also delight in early 70's hits such as THESE DAYS, THE GRAND TOUR and WHAT MY WOMAN CANT DO. Included is a song that many consider to be the greatest country song of all time, HE STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY. After listening to this CD, you will know why Jones is a living legend and you will realize that they don't make them like this guy anymore .. and what he does to a country song hasn't been done like this since!
A Fine Introduction August 18, 2006 C. C. Black (Princeton, NJ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Though I've long known George Jones's name and reputation, I am fairly unfamiliar with his music. I enjoyed this CD as a good introduction to that man's resonant voice and honest song-stylings. The disc is also very good value for money. The only downside I can suggest is that most of the songs will probably be unfamiliar to listeners looking for "standards"--but that's my problem, not Mr. Jones's.
