Four year wait, for this? October 8, 2008 Micaloneus (the Cosmos) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a fan of Jems first CD Finally Woken, but this was almost painful. This album just seems to lay there, while trying too hard at too many styles. This is a classic example of a sophomore slump, no doubt about it. A four year wait, for this? Well, at least they got the title right.
Solid September 17, 2008 Linh Nguyen (Maryland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd say if your a fan of Jem's vocals, go for it. I know I am. The album feels a bit slower than her first. My initial reactions are positive, but I think she could do more. Sadly, there's a bonus track on iTunes, but not here. I only favor iTunes if it's an iTunes Plus track, DRM-free. Unfortunately, no one but EMI wants to give it to Apple. I remember the last album was on her site as a FLAC download.. what happened Jem? Anyway, it's a solid album, could be better, but worth the download for a Jem fan.
Jem, Is Really Amazing! September 19, 2008 Dereck (New Jersey) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like her previous album, Jem dosen't let down. She proves beyond her potential. Every song is carefully crafted, with her unique voice. Similar to of Dido. Favorite tracks are Crazy, Spanish influenced>> I Want You To, It's Amazing, Catchy tracks you'll be singing are Keep On Walking, And So I Pray. Overall, Jem Impresses with her lyrics, Great Sophmore Debut!
Good album but... September 20, 2008 Robert Zograph (Detroit, Mi.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There is always a but. This album, while solid, does not capture the spirit of Jem's first album Finally Woken. That was such a fantastic album that maybe comparisons shouldn't be made to it. I think that the time off between the label battles and buyouts might have hurt this album a bit. I would definitely recommend it to any of my friends, and you the consumer.
Down To Earth- Second Success September 23, 2008 Hayden R. Deck (Virginia, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall Grade: B+ Hilights: Down To Earth, It's Amazing, You Will Make It, I Always Knew, Aciiid! Jem's sophomore effort lends itself to the same melodic, rhythmic pop tunes as "Finally Woken", but carries a great deal more emotional weight and dramatic tone. Instead of beach music and cute love tunes, "Down To Earth" offers a much louder fusion of genres. "You Will Make It" is her most sensitive song yet, while "Aciiid!" is precisely the trip that it implies. There is a quiet power at work here (it's amazing). This album is a complete effort and quite a listening adventure, worth more than a mention!
