Best live act shows why April 2, 2008 Ricardo Garcia Mainou (Queretaro, Mx) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Since a few years ago, every Muse record is a must. This is no exception. A double disk featuring the "Black Holes and Revelations" tour concert in Wembley. In a CD with the best songs and a DVD with an hour and a half of first rate footage. Matthew Bellamy is a genius, in very sense of the word. He plays the piano and the guitar as a God, and sings with one of the widest ranges and higher registers in modern music. In a fun note, the concert begins with "Knights of Cydonia" and finishes with "Take a bow", since they are respectively the last and first of their previous record. Standouts: "Hysteria", "Time is running out", "Supermassive black hole" and the magnificent "Unintended" from early work: Showbiz. The concert sounds great (the CD sound quality is better), and looks amazing. Only complaint: bad transfer resolution: with many pixelated objects and blurred images during the concert, specially in the fastest shots. Lets hope for a later HD Release of this concert. I'll buy it again!
You know, I already liked Muse a ton... April 8, 2008 Christopher Wood (North Haven, CT United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
... But this stupid live set had to put it above just about every band that I like and love (aside from Dream Theater). I don't typically buy too many live DVDs of bands, but, I had heard by a lot of people that Muse puts on one hell of a great show. Since I would someday love to see them live personally, I figured I'd see what I was getting myself into. I was a little constricted on time, but I got through just about all of the DVD portion. Let's be honest, I didn't care about the CD part of it. I DON'T EVEN LIKE THE SONG "KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA" THAT MUCH! And they made it terrific on their show. Everything was near perfect. So thanks to this stupid set, I was late to an engagement I had to be at, because I seriously was completely enamored with their talent. Matthew Bellamy sounds every bit as good live, as he does on the studio albums, if not BETTER! There isn't all that much Origin of Symmetry or Showbiz on here, but, enough to satisfy I'd say. I would point towards those who are huge fans of Black Holes and Absolution to buy this set first and foremost. Buy it even if you love Showbiz and OoS. Actually, just buy it. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll miss tomorrow's really boring management meeting due to having too much damn fun watching Matthew Bellamy completely eradicate your chances of wanting to listen to anything else for the next couple of days.
Wanted: Camera crew not on Speed to film Muse in concert. May 23, 2008 S. Walker (NM) 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
A review of the DVD. If you enjoy blurry shots, half second shots and many, many, (oh so many) audience shots - this is the concert for you. The people at this concert did not pay to see the other people at this concert so why would anyone buying this DVD do so either. Not since Queen's 'Rock In Rio' have I seen a director (actually two directors here) so obsessed with getting as many audience members on the screen. Who wants to see someone in the audience sing along to the song that's being played?! No one. Point the camera at the stage!! Muse are a great band and I love their music but, as with the DVD that came with 'Black Holes And Revelations', their live show has yet to be done justice when committed to film. The filming here has all the same problems as their Glastonbury set with some extras thrown in. What exactly is to be gained by a series of half second shots in rapid succession? Why waste time on 'artsy' (and I'm being very generous), blurry shots? When the camera people were previously employed filming N.Y.P.D. Blue and can't stand up straight, does this help us see what's going on? The beauty of a concert DVD is that you get to see a show you may have missed or get a better view of it if you were there. U2's 'Zoo TV', Talking Heads' 'Stop Making Sense' and Depeche Mode's 'Devotional' - great concerts with a lot going on, beautifully filmed and without the need for camera tricks. The performances were enough in themselves. Where do directors get the ego to think they can improve on a band's efforts? If the pace of filming on the slower songs had been applied to the whole concert, this would have been a great DVD. Instead the two directors and their wacky camera crew seem panicked at the thought of missing anything and as a result miss almost everything - apart from the audience of coarse. I noticed in the credits that there was a Stedicam operator - I guess none of his shots made it to the final cut.
Incredible, as always! April 1, 2008 bjermaine (TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
These guys are probably the best stadium concert act in the world today. This dvd is in widescreen format and has PCM Stereo 2.0 and DTS 5.1 Surround audio options (No Dolby 5.1 surround). It is an NTSC, region 0 dvd which will play in US dvd players. Great performance and a well directed dvd. This is a great band in their prime. Some of this dvd you can preview at muse.mu and get a taste of the show. It doesn't replicate the thrill of seeing Muse in concert, but it comes close.
I was in awe... April 3, 2008 Sharina (PA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This has to be one of the best live CDs I have ever heard - a definite must for any Muse fan! I've never been to their live show before, and by watching the DVD and being totally amazed I cannot even begin to wonder how awesome it was to actually be there. The only disappointing thing was that not all of the songs on the DVD were on the CD, including my favorite songs "Blackout" and "Hoodoo."
