Undefeated and Still Champion June 26, 2008 R. Covington 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The kings and queens of acid jazz, led by Bluey, just continue to deliver great music, wonderful arrangements, beautiful vocals, super production, magical lyrics, orchestral excellence, forever unique...since buying Jazz Funk in 1983, I have been entranced by Incognito...and 'Tales from the Beach' is the latest release in their extraordinary history, making sure they retain their crown as the best...they topped iTunes this past week, and I expect by next Tuesday, this CD will be on top...it's hard to believe that each album offers so many great grooves, while each stands alone, they represent a tremendous influence in music over the past 25 years...we are all fortunate to have been able to enjoy Bluey and all the musicians who have been a part of Incognito over the years...
Another Outstanding CD from an Amazing Band ! One of their Best !!!!! June 27, 2008 Gary Berman (Atlanta, GA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Anyone that enjoys "Real" music, made by "Real " musicians, and vocals sung by "Real" vocalists will love this newest CD from one of the best Jazz/Soul/R&B bands to ever exist! Bluey and the Incognito family of talented musicians/singers/writers/etc....have really put together a top notch project. This CD is packed with all the right ingredients to make it one of best projects Incognito has ever put out...Funky& Jazzy grooves, a great horn section, and Amazing Vocals from all the singers- especially the sweet and sulty sounds of Maysa Leak, she is a vocal goddess ! This CD is a must for any Incognito fan ! If you are not familiar with Incognito check it out, and by all means...if they are ever in concert near you GO !!!!!!! One of the best live bands I've ever experienced !
Some tales put you to sleep August 15, 2008 George Bradford Jr. (Beaumont, TX.) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
The one thing they forgot is they're a jazz band. Hint. Hint. More instrumentals please! This group has some good vocalist and two great vocalist, but Maysa's songs weren't on her level this time. Tony carried this CD, and it shouldn't be that way. Imaani is no distant third, but neither could she save her songs which made this album boring. Most of all, someone please tell me what these songs have to do with a beach. Go, Cowboys!!! ***After giving the CD more time to marinate, I think the songs are really good. I still think a few higher quality instrumentals would have been great. I really love the Stevie Wonder twist to some of the songs. A little Stevie is like a little salt or a little hot sauce. LOL!! FOUR STARS***
This is the INCOGNITO sound that hooked you years ago! July 1, 2008 Kerry J. Beech (Marietta, GA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
INCOGNITO is back with a killer album! This album has the original and unique INCOGNITO sounds that captured our ears and grooves a number of years ago with the "POSITIVITY" and "TRIBES, VIBES & SCRIBES" albums. The heavy bass, the sharp horns, the smooth grooves and the familiar INCOGNITO vocalists are all present on this album. There are no club remixes or remastered classics on this album. These are all fresh, new songs that are destined to put INCOGNITO back on top again. Honestly, this is the album that I've been waiting on for years from this group. Their last couple of releases were basically just okay, but this one is their best in years. If you used to like INCOGNITO years ago when they put out their trademark mellow, jazzy funk, then you will absolutely love them again. Evidently someone told Bluey that he should take the group back to its roots. He did and it works. I sound like a commercial for INCOGNITO, but I'm just a fan who was surprised by this gem that the group has just given us. Listen to MAYSA on the smooth and sultry "When Words Are Just Words" - talk about smooth! Listen to the songs "N.O.T." and "Tales From The Beach" - now that's classic INCOGNITO bass bumpin' and horn blowin'. This album should satisfy all music interests in the jazz, neo-soul, acid jazz arenas. You will absolutely love this album. INCONITO IS BACK !!!!!!!!
