This quotes pretty much sums up what's wrong with metalcore. All that matters is which band is new or "trendy" in the "scene," or looks the best. Musical value? What's that? Who cares if the music is mediocre, the lead singer has HIGHLIGHTED BANGS! OMG! ^_^

This cd is like taking a little Trivium, Killswitch Engage, and 36 Crazyfists and swirling it all together and out comes "THE POISON". (Yes it is that good) Why aren't these guys household names? They are hands down better than the majority of the garbage "metal-core" bands out there. Songs such as "Suffocating under words of sorrow" and "Tears don't fall" are prime examples of this bands ability. Matt Tuck has awesome vocals and writes some damn good tunes! The rest of the band oozes with power and dominance. Every tune on this cd is amazing and hard hitting. Watch out Trivium you now have some competetion. Get this cd and don't listen to any negative reviews you may here about this band, they are still stuck in the past! Bullet for my valetine = \m/\m/

I'm tired of metalheads. I'm tired of name-dropping people who think that because they listen to something that somehow defies trends (Although black metal is the most formulaic form of music out there, anyone who says no has no idea) when in fact there are very very few bands that can and do defy trends. I hate to name drop, but some of the best in heavy music for the past few years have been Candiria, Maudlin of the Well, Converge, Mr Bungle (sort of heavy, not really), and Between the Buried and Me. I listen to all of these guys, but I also enjoy more mainstream acts as well. I also enjoy how people rip on metalcores "visual appearance" when most underground metal has the most strikingly ridiculous costumes, complete with norse armor and weaponry, lame vampiric get ups, fake blood, and an overabundance in clothing that is straight out of slasher flicks from the 1970's.
You can listen to the innovators, the Mastodons and the Gigantic Brains of the world, but listening to other things is not forbidden, nor is it bad. Especially not when "pop" music has such a technical edge to it, I find it refreshing that the trendiest music on the radio requires its artists to have some chops. You'd figure the underground metalheads would at least be a little satisfied it isn't nu metal anymore (and it's not, stop calling it that), but they're never satisfied. If what they like becomes popular, they complain, and then find something new to latch on to, whine that people are stupid for not getting it, and then when people do get it they disown it immediately.
Anyway, on to the album. Bullet for my Valentine is another in a glut of albums I've been listening to from the metalcore sect (including Assie rockers Parkway Drive and the new Unearth) and this is by far the better of the 3. The playing is tight, the riffs are nice and cleanly done, the songwriting however is a bit formulaic. Basically, if you've heard Hand of Blood or Tears Don't Fall, don't expect many surprises from this release. Again, the album might not set the world on fire, but it's not bad by any means.
To all those reading this review, if you're a rabid fan of Unearth or Killswitch, be sure this is on your list. It's quite good. It isn't, however, the seminal metalcore album. That already came out last year, it's called Constitution of Treason by God Forbid, and is easily one of the best straight metal albums I've heard in a long long time.

This is the metal I've been looking for. Speed and aggression WITH technical ability and good song-crafting. On top of that, the guy can actually sing (when he chooses to--he likes to do the Pantera/Hatebreed vocal-cord, shredding-screaming-thing, which I don't get personally). Cool riffs and some cool soloing (but not much).
For me, The Poison draws on those elements that were best in 80s speed-metal while still having a contemporary sound. I don't give out five stars lightly but this is the best new disc I've gotten in quite some time.
Highly recommended.

There's only one way to put it. These guys just flat out rock! Their appreciation for old school metal (ala Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc...) is apparrent. with hard driving, pounding beats, harmony leads a-plenty, and melodies that surprisingly hold the songs together this album flows like a well worn path down a never-ending road to oblivion where the final conflict includes you getting your head kicked in. Old meets new as a constant metal pounding meets emo, meets british metal. These guys have certainly started a trend that never needs to stop. A 10 on the richter scale of heavy. Not for the faint of heart.
