A Glass of O'Douls... August 28, 2008 Joseph Palka (Maryland, outside of DC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Alas, the sticker on the label might have said it all. "From the producer of Celtic Women!" And this was to have enticed me? Apparently, it succeeded because buy it I did. The photos in and outside of the jacket might have told the tale: Something manufactured here. The scarves tied a little too neatly....do the gentleman play the instruments they are holding on the cover, or were they just given to them to look authentic? The music, unfortunately, resonates much the same way. Or should I say reverberates? Be wary of production qualities that turn up the echo. Way too "new agey" to hail from the land of O'Casey and Synge. Their voices technically perfect, but no testosterone. I ordered Guiness but got O'Douls. How do you say N'Synch in gaelic?
FANTASTIC March 13, 2008 Lady Bug (Watertown, NY) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I came across The High Kings by accident as I was looking for something to watch on TV recently. They were being featured on my local PBS station on their "Live In Dublin" DVD. I only caught their last couple of songs and knew I heard something fantistic. The next day I was in the stores looking for their music. I found this CD in Borders and their DVD at FYE. They were both worth every cent and I have enjoyed their CD almost everyday since then. The DVD is really entertaining watching these four guys perform with their beautiful voices and harmonies.

I did not find this to be close to good Irish music. I too, bought this CD without hearing any songs, or even knowing WHO The High Kings are. Their sound is boring to me, there are no surprises. I thought I'd be hearing some real Irish authentic music, instead they seem to try way too hard to fit into the modern world, especially with the song "From Galway to Graceland." I really felt that song was awful and un-necessary. I have learned the hard way...Never buy a CD you don't know!
Wow...these guys are the real thing! March 18, 2008 Brian Conklin-Powers (Portland, ME USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've enjoyed a varied list of Celtic artists over the years...from John Gary to The Chieftans to Karan Casey...and I'm here to tell you that these Lads are a talented bunch!! Vocal talent, fine harmonies, good fun to listen to!
The High Kings - Get it now!!!! March 20, 2008 Jon R. Mcdade 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you like Irish Harmony, Irish Folk or this type of folk music. Don't think twice, just order, you will like this. Get both the CD & DVD they have benefits of both. You have to hear these guys to believe them. You won't regret buying either / or both, But the DVD is incredible. Get the CD just because you need to take it with you and to support them. I can't wait for them to come out with something else, I will be first on the list!!! Totally unreal, you will really enjoy this.
