THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL........THE SALSA KING! February 27, 2000 Janet (Bronx, NY) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'd like to start by saying that Marc Anthony doesn't have an "alright" voice. He has one of the most beautiful voices in music. He has a big range and can hold a note forever. His tenor is awesome and the emotion and passion he puts in his music is unbelievable. "I Need To Know" isn't the only hit on this album. Every single song is beautiful. I've been listening to his salsa records for 7 years now and as years go by his talent grows. Every single song this man has sung is excellent and he's the man. He's a very sweet, humble person and I'm definitely a die hard fan. I'd also like to say that I wasn't at all shocked that this album was such a hit. I didn't expect any less from the "King of Salsa", and now pop. That's right, POP. Because this album is off the hook. Better than Ricky's and Enrique's put together. The lyrics to his music are touching and his voice is better than both of these men. I've been fortunate enough to attend 6 of Marc's concerts, including the msg performance recently on HBO, and as always he's put on excellent shows. His energy is unbelievable and is without a doubt the best performer I've ever seen. "Marc es un orgullo latino, y Puerto Rico lo adora".Marc Anthony is simply PHENOMENAL!
Dynamite ! September 7, 2000 Alejandra Vernon (Long Beach, California) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
This CD will appeal to almost everyone. It's lushly produced, melodic, with lovely romantic lyrics ("Remember Me"!), terrific dance songs like "I Need to Know"/"Dimelo", "That's O.K." and "She's Been Good to Me"/"Como Ella Me Quiere a Mi", and a real salsa finish with "Da la Vuelta", all sung with Marc's electric voice. You also get your money's worth, with 15 tracks and 67 minutes of fabulous music. My only complaint ? You need a magnifying glass to read some of the info in the booklet...but the great photo of his extraordinary long-fingered hands makes up for it ! For sheer artistry, I'll still listen to "Contra la Corriente", but for a more "easy listening" recording, this is totally superb, and will no doubt sell zillions of copies, which is great. Sell those CDs Marc ! Spread your magic to every corner of the earth.
Marc Anthony does it again. March 3, 2000 Elizabeth Cortes (Chicago, Illinois) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have been a huge Marc Anthony fan since 1994 and Ladies and gentleman the English album gives us a new window into the man that we know as Marc Anthony. The CD is not meant to be like his great salsa albums, but it is equally as beautiful as the others. Beautiful ballads such as When I dream at Night, Don't Let Me Leave, Remember, My Baby You, and You sang to me combine with dancing hits of That's Okay and I need to Know to form a complete musical experience. While many may think that Marc Anthony came with the "Latin Explosion" all I have to say is let the music do the talking. You will not be disappointed. Marc's beautiful voice combined with a talent for writing and interpretation will insure that he will be around for many years to come! Marc is a true musical genius and his fans will follow him regardless if he sings english or spanish.
Love at first Listen December 21, 2000 Linda Hanson (Bklyn, NY USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have to be quite honest in saying that the first time I ever heard of Marc, was accidentally. I was going through the channels on the T.V. when I came across a concert of his. I was absolutely glued to his voice, and then fell in love with the fact that he was also a tender human being. While singing "My Baby You", which he wrote for his daughter, he began to cry. My only regret about that is he promised right then and there, never to sing that song in concert again. It is my favorite song, and I sing it to my daughter all the time. He was absolutely amazing. I immediately ran out and bought the CD. I love every song on it, and it is the first CD that I actually play every day, and will never get sick of. I saw him in concert at Jones Beach this last summer. It was also amazing. The only thing is, my spanish is not all that good, so that is why I really appreciate the fact that he made this english CD. Without it, I would have never known Marc Anthony. I truly pray that he see's it in his heart to make another english CD so that I can fall in love all over again.. especially before I wear this one out.. My husband even loves it, and that was a total surprise to me. Truly, it is great, and if you love LOVE songs, and some spanish music that makes you move whether you want to or not, you will love Marc Anthony.
The other face of Marc Anthony. April 13, 2003 Javier Lopez (Peru) 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
When I heard "I need to know", I just couldn't believe that was sang by him, because before this album, Marc Anthony used to sing Salsa music and I didn't like his music because I dislike salsa very much. So I didn't buy the album because I thought that it was going to be; 1 good song and the rest, salsa. But then I heard "You sang to to me" and I decided to buy it because a found that song very, very good. This, his first English album was a hit in the U.S and Europe. Reaching Platinum status in the U.S and it also had 2 Top 20 singles ("I need to know" and "You sang to me"). Marc Anthony's voice is good and his rhythms are very good and as I said, I don't like salsa but he gives his music a twist of salsa, but actually in a soft way and that mix happends to be very good. His music can be pop or dance but he does it very good. I would've rated this album with 5 stars but I find difficult to believe that his music company didn't add the spanish version of "You sang to me".
