One of the Best of 2008! October 8, 2008 The Eclectic One (Miami, FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have to admit I was not a big fan of Michelle's earlier Gospel efforts. I love her voice, but the whole constant Gospel feel didn't do it for me. Now, I heard this album when it leaked a month ago and fell in love with it! So today, Tuesday October 8th I went and bought the CD and I once again could NOT get tired of it! Her new look is FANTASTIC and the CD album is amazing from start to finish! Michelle has managed to create a great balance of dance, pop and R&b all in one package and she does it so well! Hungover is a CERTIFIED club Banger along with Hello Heartbreak, which should be her third single. I thought it was good move for her to release The Greatest as a second single, because it truly is a beautiful song with a great refreshing beat to it. And like every song in the cd, she complements her great raspy unique voice with refreshing beats that are so different than everything else out right now. Due to the poor marketing her poor record label is giving her, she will not sell as big as her counterpart Beyonce, she might do worse than Kelly which is Scary...but this is TRULY A HIDDEN GEM and certifiably one of the best R&b/Dance albums of the year...CONGRATULATIONS MICHELLE!

Michelle Blew the Roof off of My Expectations!!!! October 10, 2008 Takiyah Lee (Richmond, VA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album is GREAT!!! Even considering the fact that I had already heard snippets of most of the songs back in July of this year, she still came with more intriguing songs on this album! I am NOT bored listening to this album AT ALL!!! This is one album that I am going to KEEP and PROMOTE! She did NOT get the Promotion that she really deserved!!! Sony did not do her justice! Maybe they didn't think she'd turn it out! This album is the BOMB guys! If you're looking for an upbeat album for dancing, singing, relationship advice, POP tracks, R&B tracks, and just pure FUN, this is it! MICHELLE DEFINITELY HAS MY VOTE! THIS ALBUM MAKES HER SSSSSHHHHHIIIIIINNNNNNEEEEEE!!!!
Very Unxpected! In a great way... October 10, 2008 Mary Jane 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have never been a fan of Michelle in Destiny's Child or as a solo artist. However, after listening to a few of her tracks online I decided to purchase her album and was pleasantly surprised. She is not the best singer but her style is unique and the type of songs she has assembled on Unexpected are suitable for her voice. The only thing I don't understand is why her album was not heavily promoted. She has a quality album and deserves to be marketed if she has any realistic chances of being successful. Unfortunately for Michelle and Kelly, as long as they are with Matthew Knowles they will NEVER receive adequate marketing, budgeting, promotion or branding to be successful as a solo artist. Hopefully they realize this before consumers give up on them as artists. Stand out tracks: Hello Heartbreak-funky dance track The Greatest-beautiful ballad without over the top vocals Stop this Car-nice melancholy sound We Break the Dawn remix-fly dance track Hungover-funky groove Private Party-nice and unique sound Support Michelle. You will be thoroughly surprised and its refreshing that she stepped out of the traditional R & B niche.
