Great effort by Franti September 24, 2008 The Glass Guitar 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It would be hard to top, or even match, a masterpiece like "Yell Fire," that's a given. But "All Rebel Rockers" is still better than 95% of all the music coming out these days. Franti's lyrics are still pointed, and there is a good balance between "life is beautiful" songs and "rebel" songs. Musically the tunes are very strong. It actually might be a bit better "introduction" to Franti's music than "Yell Fire," which is something of a concept album. Cherine Anderson is featured on several tracks. In some cases her harmonies complement Franti's voice really well, while on other tracks she just talks in the background. I don't care for that sort of stuff, but I can see how others might find it appealing. She does seem to be enjoying herself, and that adds to the atmosphere. Overall this is a great collection of material and a must-have for all Franti fans.
All Rebel Rockers September 25, 2008 T. Snyder (AZ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Back in the day, I used to think of Spearhead as more of a hip-hop act with other musical vibes thrown in for good measure. But more recently, Spearhead seems to have become a reggae act with other vibes thrown in. Me personally, I love the direction that Michael Franti has taken the group. The reggae outfit seems to fit better. 'All Rebel Rockers' continues in his recent success of awesome albums. I absolutely loved 'Everyone Deserves Music', as well as 'Yell Fire'. I wouldn't say 'All Rebel Rockers' is as good as those two, but it's definitely in the ballpark. Michael Franti always seems to have a good mixture between political activism and a positive human outlook. He comes off like as a lovable mix between a militant and a hippie. Sort of a 2008 version of Bob Marley if he were still alive and making music. The music, as always, is uplifting, danceable, head-nod-able, and always has good choruses for you to sing along to. Spearhead is a great band, one of my favorites, and yet they're definitely under the radar. I would definitely recommend this album. Plus, it's better than just about anything else new that you could be buying.
Solid, right on. September 28, 2008 Steven Franssen (Monmouth, OR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Definitely a good introduction to the artist if you're not familiar with his earlier work. The production is crisp without overdoing it and a few of the songs are great for dancing! His songwriting falls a little flat on some of the more "rock" songs but overall this album is completely worth buying!
Best Album for our times... September 20, 2008 Peaceful Rebel (Miami, FL) I have been looking for music that expresses the insanity of our times. There is so much going on in the world today, and there is virtually no one brave enough to speak up. Michael Franti and Spearhead are amazing at creating beautiful pieces of music. I love the message in their lyrics, the amazing music, and the sultry voice! I can not stop listening to this CD. I would highly recommend it.
Awesome CD, Don't pass this one up! September 20, 2008 K. Spencer (Seattle, WA USA) Michael Franit and Spearhead have outdone themselves again! This is a great CD, you won't be disapointed. Almost all of the songs have a great dance beat and are backed-up by Cherine Anderson, who has an amazing voice. If you have a chance to see this band live, DO IT, they are incredible live! This CD is very upbeat and will lift you up and feed your soul with love and happiness. Peace to all!
