Interesting, but something just doesn't gel. June 23, 2007 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
OK, let me start by saying that I do like most of the album. I'm only really writing this review to help others like myself who only hear the clips here or on iTunes before buying the CD, only to be disappointed when they get it. All of the clips I heard were good enough for me to take a chance on this CD. However, most of the album is NOT like the clips I heard. It's not bad by any means, but it is different.
I will describe it with the recurring thoughts that ran through my head as I listed to it several times this week:
1. The music reminds me a lot of Metallica's And Justice For All. Now I loved "Justice," but a lot of fans didn't. This album is just as progressive if not more so. Very good musicianship.
2. Her vocals are very good. Reminds me of the female vocalist that Sirenia had on "At Sixes & Sevens." For me, anyway, that is a damn good thing. That was always my favorite CD by Sirenia BECAUSE of her.
3. Did someone dub the wrong vocals over this song? This is my main complaint with the album. The vocals don't mesh with the music. And by that I mean they don't sound like they belong with the music being played on some of the songs. Some of them are fine, but on some I keep thinking that the band just took her vocals and slapped them over another song that they liked playing better. (Yes, I do realize that this MAY be some high-brow experiment in musical progression that I just don't enjoy, but if it's hard to listen too, then how do they expect to attract new listeners? In 4 days, I've already had 3 people comment on this that have heard it in my truck.)
When all is said and done, it is a good CD, and I am eagerly awaiting their next offering. I just hope they tighten up the vocals with the music. Her voice deserves the respect.
Not Your Typical Gothic Metal Band! April 14, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Went to see Echoes of Eternity 04/11 at Brick by Brick here in San Diego, CA.,USA. Their music has a harder edge than most bands that I have seen. Traditional heavy metal grooves & riffs with progressive and gothic movements. The intensity of their music is power & tightness-OUTSTANDING! Francie Boucher vocals are traditional and a blend that gives a song a completely different vibe-ethereal and higher pitch. This CD gives alot of divesity, aggressive and heavy songs to slow and dreamy ballads. The band members are very technically skilled-WHAT ENERGY! I had them all autograph their new CD for me! They will be up and coming band this year! What a unique sound of vocals and metal blend!
Got to like this one April 19, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I like this cd. It's fast and heavy. Very well done album. I only have one little thing. Her vocals just don't meet up with the tempo of the songs very well. But still a good album.
It's not all that April 24, 2007 3 out of 9 found this review helpful
This CD definitely lacks in being congruent. The singer seems to be in her own world while the musicians are off thrashing half the time. It's like she is singing to different music. Very strange.
This Band Rocks August 7, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have sceen Echoes of Eternity live in concert in Houston TX not to long ago and thought they were great. I have never heard of them before, but after hearing them live I picked up a copy of their album at the merchandise booth and I got to meet the band after the show. I have been listening to the album for the passed couple of days and have enjoyed it just as much as when I heard them live. I think Francine Boucher has great vocals and delivers with a powerful punch. The rest of the band is very good instrumentally and they really have it together. You have to enjoy progressive metal or goth metal to appreciate the music. I thought the album was well put together, you will just have to check it out yourself. I am all about bands that have a femal vocalist, I can't wait for their next album.
