After a long wait--like the entire fifth season--Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) is dating again. The sixth season of the popular HBO show starts with Carrie and her sparkly new potential, Berger (Ron Livingston), trying to leave past relationships and hit it off. The results are mixed (up to Berger's memorable exit), but the good news is Carrie is at it again, and a new love interest can be found in the member of a wedding party, an old high school flame (David Duchovny), or an ueber-famous painter (Mikhail Baryshnikov). As Carrie plays the field, her friends seem to be settling down, relatively speaking. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) decides that her affair with TiVo cannot compete when Mr. Perfect (Blair Underwood, at his most charming) moves into her building. Charlotte's (Kristin Davis) feelings for her "opposites attract" boyfriend (Evan Handler, perhaps fans' most-loved boyfriend) deepen, but they still have a few things to iron out. Most surprising is Samantha's (Kim Cattrall) hot relationship with waiter-actor-stud Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis) taking on something resembling love, despite Samantha's best intentions.

Before the sixth season started in the summer of 2003, a bombshell hit: it was announced that this would be the finale. Fans, just getting over the truncated fifth season (due to half the cast getting pregnant), were beside themselves. But it would be a long season, and these 12 episodes plant the seeds for the final 8 airing the following winter. These dozen episodes illustrate the maturity of the show: there's not a bad one in the bunch, with things like old flames Mr. Big (Chris Noth), and Steve (David Eigenberg) popping in with deeper resiliency. And the show is still flat-out funny. Berger is the most intrinsically humorous of Carrie's beaus (his introduction to Prada is a classic), Jarrod's earnest streak on Samantha gets her flabbergasted in the giddiest ways, and Charlotte's attempt to convert to Judaism is right in character. The touchstone episode is "A Woman's Right to Shoes," in which Carrie loses her prized and expensive Manolo Blahniks at a party. The comedy blends serious points of how we perceive singles, couples, and parents (and the gifts we lavish on the latter two). Carrie's method of celebrating her singlehood is just another gem in this treasure of a series. --Doug Thomas

1 out of 5 stars Are you kidding?   March 4, 2004

I'd put off buying season 5 because of the astronomical price (considering how many episodes you actually get). Now they expect you to pay the same price for half of season six!? I love the show, but they released all the other seasons in their entirety. HBO, you're way too money hungry for me. I'm already paying to subscribe...I can't afford to piss my money into the wind on half a season! Disgraceful.

1 out of 5 stars 1 Star for the price - 5 stars for the show!   February 7, 2004

I am a die-hard S&TC fan. I absolutely LOVE the show - and will definitely buy the 6th season disks - but COME ON!!! Haven't we (S&TC fans) shelled out enough dough for this show. Not only do we have to pay just to watch the show, but we buy the merchandise as well. The fifth season was ok - but full price for an 8 episode season? And now they're breaking the 6th season in 2 releases and charging full price for both? HBO - thy greed runneth over - WAY over!

5 out of 5 stars A Woman's Right to Sex   March 6, 2004

I just love this show. I'm a Charlotte, most definitely, but the diversity of these four friends keeps me coming back for more. Now that Sex has ended, I have to have them all......I have come to love each of these women, and HBO made a spectacular ending for this show, in my opinion.

My favorite episode in this set is "A Woman's Right to Shoes". Just before the show aired, I received criticism from someone regarding how much I spend on my clothes and shoes. I actually felt shamed for shopping where I like to shop, even though no children were neglected due to my spending habits! When "A Woman's Right to Shoes" aired, I felt completely vindicated. I was able to watch a repeat of my favorite episode again last night, and I feel so empowered, I may just go buy a new outfit today!

Thank God for Sex!

1 out of 5 stars This is ridiculous!   March 3, 2004

I just want to state that I am one of the biggest sex and the city fans you'll meet, but I cannot believe that HBO is splitting season 6 up just so that they can charge us twice as much! I haven't even gotten myself to buy season 5 yet, and I'll probably hold off on buying this one as well. Yes, this is one of the best shows that has ever been on television, but considering the dvds have absolutely no special features and HBO is going to be showing every episode again in the upcoming months, I think I'll probably just be taping the episodes and saving myself $65.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Show On Television   July 22, 2003

Okay, let's start off with just saying that I started watching Sex and the City during it's fourth season. After I saw a few episodes, I went to Best Buy and bought The Complete First & Second Seasons of Sex and the City.

My eyes were glued to the tv. Side-splitting humor combined with four sexy women and I say you have a winner. One episode after another after another. It never gets old. This show really explores sexuality and what women think about it. I find this show very informative yet funny. Sometimes, I even forget I'm watching a show. I feel like I'm in NYC, with the ladies, talking about sex.

When The Complete Third Season came out on DVD, I bought it the first day it was for sale. Still great sexual humor. I couldn't get enough of it. But in the third season, the show started showing a more dramatic side of the characters. Not that I'm saying its bad, I just like it when you can have humor with information, with drama. And not too much drama, just enough.

As I was watching The Complete Fourth Season, I began to realize, I'm starting to connect with these characters. Thats amazing!

I highly anticipate the fifth and sixth seasons on DVD. The fifth season was short but sassy and comedic. Although I have only seen the first 5 episodes of the sixth and final season, I'm sure it'll be just as good or even better then the last 5 seasons. Though it will be sad to see the ladies go, I'm hoping they'll make a Sex and the City movie, or something to keep us SATC fans going.

So if you're out there...contemplating whether or not you should buy any of the show's DVDs, don't think twice about it, order them NOW. I recommend you order all so you can get the full "dose" of the show. So please, order the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons of this wonderful and fabulous show.
