The variety of projects in Simple Gifts to Stitch allows you to tailor each gift to your time frame and tastes, with ideas for every occasion:
• For birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions, you’ll find special creations such as a fanciful botanical tiara or an elegant beaded silk wrap, as well as ideas for stitching your own gift wrap. • For housewarming gifts or host gifts, Jocelyn offers a variety of easily made necessities for the home, including a striped duvet cover, sculptural place mats, and—for the perfect hostess—a modern apron. • For babies and children, Jocelyn shows you how to stitch up gifts for every age, from cute terrycloth toys to a fleece imp hat with matching mittens.
Some of the projects are super simple while others are a little more challenging, but you’ll want to make all of them more than once. What a good buy August 29, 2007 67 out of 68 found this review helpful
I've bought quite a few of the recent crop of sewing books. Some of them were a waste of cash and are a waste of shelf space. This one is one of the few - very few! - that isn't. The projects are simple but beautiful and original, the bag on the cover is a great example. She has some very stylish, cool ideas, and her sensibility is what I call Japanese. Interesting use of pleating and pintucks and overlay of different fabrics. She has gifts to wear like very original scarves and wraps, things for the home, like throws and an apron which even I would wear (and I really don't get this whole apron thing), and stuff for kiddies - including a gorgeous leaf cushion I will make myself. The photography is beautiful, the writing is balanced - not cutesy and not dry (compare Break the Rules Sewing and In Stitches - this is a nice halfway house), the templates are well done and even - I cannot stand rough hand drawn templates - and she also has a very thorough intro..... Recommended....
They really are Elegant and Easy! June 27, 2007 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
I just received this and I can't wait to start sewing. The projects are unique and fun. The author does a great job of explaining everything, including a full glossary and patterns. If you are a seamstress, or like me, just not afraid of a sewing machine, this is a great book for you. If you are afraid of your sewing machine, this could be the set of projects to tame you fears. I'm off to the fabric store!
Cant wait to start August 8, 2007 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
This book is excellent, and I can not wait to start sewing from it. Lovely, fresh ideas and projects. Well written with great photos.

I loved the tote on front and had heard good things about the book. It is a good read, and beautifully photographed. I was, however, a bit disappointed in the projects. They really just weren't very practical or my taste, but by ordering online, that's my fault. I do plan to make the tote, but probably little else.
Very disappointing July 15, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was really disappointed with this book. Some of the gifts are simple and easy but most of the patterns are the same old patterns just rehashed a bit. New sewers may like it since some patterns really are simple and good for beginners. I do like the fact that there are patterns in the back of the book. So often we have to 'wing it' on the patterns in sewing books. Good book for someone but not me.
